Grants for Short Research Stays Abroad For early-career researchers in temporary positions

The Alfred Benzon Foundation provides support for short research stays abroad with the aim of giving early-career researchers the opportunity to strengthen their professional networks, acquire new knowledge, and promote international collaboration and professional development.

Applicants may apply for amounts up to DKK 25,000 to cover travel and accommodation expenses related to the stay.

Target group
The grant is intended for early-career researchers in temporary positions, including:

  • PhD students
  • Postdocs
  • Other temporarily employed researchers

Applicants must be affiliated with a Danish research environment within medicine, pharmacy, or related health science fields.

Applications from medical students will not be considered.

Purpose and use
Funding can be applied for:

  • Travel to and from the destination
  • Accommodation during the stay

The duration of the stay must be at least 1 month and no more than 6 months.

Note: Support is not provided for participation in conferences without a research stay, or for long-term study stays.

Application materials
Applications can be sumbitted in Danish or English and must be sent as one combined PDF-file to: mail@benzon-foundation.dk and must include the following:

  1. A brief project description outlining the purpose and plan for the stay (max 1 page)
  2. Timeline and specification of the duration of the stay
  3. Budget overview (only expenses for travel and accommodation)
  4. Invitation or confirmation from the host institution
  5. Recommendation from the main supervisor
  6. Short CV (max 1 page)
  7. Information on other grants applied from or received for the same stay from other foundation or sources

The application material must be sent as one single PDF document.

Important conditions

  • Applications must be received by the Foundation at least 5 months before the planned start date of the stay
  • Applications will not be considered if the stay has already started – or is scheduled to start shortly after submission and before the Foundation has had the opportunity to review it
  • Grants are paid out to a research account associated with the applicant’s department
  • Applications that do not comply with the stated formal requirements will be administratively rejected and not sent for academic review

Evaluation and response
Applications are processed on an ongoing basis, and a response can be expected within 2-3 months.
